In an event in Cabbarrus county, Indian Larry died doing a motorcycle stunt in front of about 8000 people.

Who is Indian Larry? I have no freakin’ clue…

The college football season started last night. Today I wanted to go over my top ten ACC candidates for the Heisman trophy.

My criteria for ranking them are:
- Talent.
- Position. DE’s and DT’s, although important, have no chance so why include them? QB is by far the top position.
- Team capable of having a good season. The Heisman trophy winner usually comes from a very good team.
- Name recognition to start the year.

Based on this criteria, several great players will be left off. Sorry Mr Barclay and Mr Durant but your teams really don’t have much of a chance of being very good. In fact, I’ll take a mediocre QB on a great team over a great QB on a mediocre team. It’s just the way it works.

So, with that said. Here are my candidates.

10) Craphonso Thorpe, FSU – As talented as this kid is, receivers don’t get much love from the voters. He’s a longshot at best.
9) Brian Randall, Va Tech – Well, he’s a gamebreaker but a win against USC would have gone a long way of propelling him on the national stage. If he can somehow lead this team to a great record and put up gaudy numbers, he still has a chance but they need to win some games they aren’t expected to win. 8) Josh Allen, Maryland – The kid just doesn’t have name recognition yet and I think that hurts unless you’re at Penn State or Michigan. He’s fast and had a good year last year with 922 rushing yards. Maryland also has to win the ACC for him to have a chance.
7) Frank Gore, Miami – He might not even be the starter and he’s very injury prone but if he gets in he’s explosive. If he can start and the team does well, he’ll get a lot of the recognition.
6) Wali Lundy, Virginia – This kid is awesome! He can catch and run and he’s really quick and Virginia has a chance to be a good team. If the defense can be as good as expected, I think Virginia will win a lot of games. He could break through.
5) Lorenzo Booker, FSU – Well, he’s talented and plays for a great team that will probably due extremely well this year. He still doesn’t have the national name recognition that some others have.
4) T.A. McClendon, NC State – T.A, when healthy, is the best back in the league. Big, bruising and hard to bring down. He has unbelievable balance. The problem is injuries keep him out of games at a time and the team might not be good enough to propel him into the national limelight. If the Pack can manage an 8-3 season it will be because of T.A and he will deserve consideration for the Heisman
3) Charlie Whitehurst, Clemson – Well, he’s got the love of the press and talent and he’s a QB. Three great ingredients for a chance at the ultimate individual prize. Clemson just has to win a lot of games and people will start looking at him.
2) Brock Berlin, Miami – Let me state up front that Brock is the least talented player in this list. However, he’s a QB that plays for a pass happy Miami team that is always in the running. Just that alone is enough to put him in the top five before the season starts. He needs to overcome mistakes that have cost the team in the past and he may have a great chance.
1) Chris Rix, FSU – Unfortunately for the ACC, its best chance for a Heisman trophy winner lies with Mr Handicap-Parking-Spot. The kid has it all; talent, great team, name recognition, position. He is however lacking consistency. Since FSU has a good chance at winning the Mythical National Championship this year, he has to be the top candidate.

Fire away!

No, I’m not talking about my golf game.

I’m bloggin’ on my new Dell M60 Mobile Workstation. I bought this to be my main development machine. I basically needed to have desktop with power that was also powerful . It’s not light but it’s really powerful.

The screen is really large and so is the keyboard. It feels good and it looks good.

Hopefully, it will give me more of an excuse to blog some more.

Former NC State star Philip Rivers signed with the Chargers today.

Let’s hope he’s in time to learn the offense and start as soon as possible.

Good luck, Philip!

Twenty-eight years ago today, my wife Dawn was born.

Happy B-day Dawn.

I love you!!!

Today, I had the very last pin taken out of my finger. Woo-hoo!

My nail still looks a little funky and I have a scar across the top. I’ve been stretching it for the past week and my doctor was really optimistic about me getting back full flexibility. Although, I can start leading a normal life again I can’t force it for the next few weeks.

I can’t wait to start playing hockey again…

I was watching a little Pre-season NFL last night with JT.net and he made some bold claims:

Clinton Portis will NOT be a top ten fantasy back

UNC will not have a rusher over 600 yards

I just wanted to get this in writing so we remember. JT.net is always making bold statements and we forget to write them down so we can make fun of him later. Let’s see if he comes through with these predictions.

Some people probably don’t like rainy days but I’ve always enjoyed them. Nothing like a rainy day for putting off yard work till next weekend.

Mr Practice and Team USA lost to Puerto Rico during the qualifying round of the Olympics in Athens today.

It doesn’t hurt there chances to medal but considering they’ve beaten Puerto Rico the last 5 times, it doesn’t look good. Maybe this will be the wakeup call but that’s what everyone thought when they lost to Italy last month.

Ok, I’m pulling out another top ten list for your thoughts .

This is my list of the top ten players to watch in ACC Football this year. Some of the choices may not be obvious while others might. I’m not basing this on who are the best players in the league but on drama and intrigue also. Here goes!

10 Antrel Rolle, Miami – Should have gone to the NFL but decided to stay another year. Let’s see if that was a mistake.
9 Brock Berlin, Miami – Could make or break the Canes. His inconsistent and often bad play cost them some games last year.
8 Charlie Whitehurst, Clemson – Possibly the best QB in the league. He’ll get plenty of chances to prove himself against quality competition.
7 Jay Davis, NC State – Replacing Golden Boy is no easy task. If he can’t cut it, Marcus Stone is waiting in the wings.
6 Cedric Humes, VT – This kid broke his leg in spring ball but will be back in time for the fall. He’s fast but has a fumble problem. This could be an exciting year for Mr. Humes.
5 T.A. McClendon, NC State – When healthy, he’s one of the best players in the country. However, he’s not a model of injury free living.
4 Marques Hagans, Virginia – Athletic QB taking over for the very effective and consistent Matt Schaub. Will he be able to keep the Cavs rolling?
3 UNC Defense - ok, ok…this isn’t one player but this unit should still be interesting. They have some talent but can they make it work. If not, it could be a long season for Carolina fans.
2 Willie Williams, Miami – Considering all the trouble Miami has gone through to keep this guy around they better hope he’s worth it. Is he?
1 Chris Rix, Florida State – Which Chris Rix will show up each week? QB who throws for 256 yards, 3 TDs and no ints against hated rival Florida or Handicapped Parking space boy?

Lots of QBs but they do get most of the attention. I’m really excited about the upcoming season. Can you tell?
