November 2004

from our Thanksgiving vacation.

Instead of spending it with family this year, Dawn and I went to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and did some hiking and driving. It was a really relaxing week with great food and great views. One day we hiked over 10 miles.

Sadly, we didn’t see any bears…

Yep, you’re gonna hear it here and probably no where else. Ron Artest should not have been suspended for the season. Now I know you think I’m on his side but, oh no, I want him to get even worse than that.

You see, just a week before he was interested in taking some time off without pay so that he could rest and promote his rap album. Well, guess what? He just got his wish. He also got tons of street cred for beating up fat white guys. You think he’s upset? Nope. His album will sell and he’ll make up the money and he’ll be able to rest and promote.

What the NBA should have done is fine him his salary and then suspend him for any playoff games the pacers would play. That way he won’t be able to promote his album. Also, by fining him his salary, he would have to play out the season to break even. Otherwise, if he quits, he doesn’t get his salary from playing and he loses a year’s salary from the fine. That would teach him!

Ok, I have not done well the past few weeks but this week I’m going to get it right.

Maryland at Virginia Tech – I think VaTech rolls. Hokies 55 – Terps 6
Wake Forest at Miami – Well, I think Miami’s got their upsets out of their system. Canes 42 – Deacs 24
North Carolina at Duke – As much as I want Duke to win, they won’t and the bell goes back to Chapel Hill. UNC 27 – Duke 7
South Carolina at Clemson – Big win for Lou on his way out. Gamecocks 20 – Tigers 10
Virginia at Georgia Tech – This is the most interesting game of the week. I think the bees pull it out in a close one. GaTech 30 – UVA 28
Florida at Florida State – The big Rivalry game. Too bad they’re both not that great this year. Still, FSU is the better team and Mr Zook is a lame duck coach. FSU 45 – UF 21

Woo-hoo! I’m a soooo totally pumped that K-mart and Sears are merging. Seriously!

Ok, maybe not but what a perfect partnering of two really crappy stores. Anybody else as excited as me that now we don’t have to avoid two stores at the mall?

I’m just saying…

The week gets off to an early start with FSU coming to Raleigh on Thursday night. I’ll be at the game freezing my butt off, thank you very much.

Florida State at NC State – I’m pulling the reverse mojo this week to hopefully get my team back on track for a bowl game. FSU 45 – Pack 21
North Carolina at Wake Forest – I think UNC gets hit hard by Wake’s rushing attack. Wake 31 – UNC 20
Clemson at Duke – This one’s ripe for an upset but Duke’s offense is too inept to pull it out. Tigers 35 – Devils 10
Connecticut at Georgia Tech – Although UConn is improving their program, they still have a lot of problems this year. I think Tech pulls it out. Tech 28 – UConn 24
Miami at Virginia – This is the biggest game of the week and although Miami is reeling, I think they are still the best team in the league. They go into Charlottesville and show Virginia who’s boss. Canes 49 – WaHoos 35

Ok, it’s not a dreary night if you’re an Xbox owner and have pre-ordered Halo 2!

You see, if you pre-ordered Halo 2, like myself, you can pick it up tonight at midnight at your local EB Games store. Although a very cool idea, you are not likely to find me rubbing elbows in line with some Jedi wannabe at 11:45 so I can be the first to play it. Nope, I’ll be in bed and will happily pick up my copy tomorrow evening on my way home from work. After that, I don’t think you’ll see me much for a couple weeks.

Actually, I’m expecting a let down. I know it’s the sequel to probably the best Xbox game out there but it can’t possibly live up to the hype. I have a feeling that they totally concentrated on the multiplayer portion of the game and neglected what made the first Halo awesome. A good, compelling story with great maps and gameplay. Yeah, it didn’t have great online multiplayer but who really wants some 12 year old kid constantly swearing and farting in his juvenile attempts to get his jollies. My problem with multiplayer is that it gets old quick just running around killing each other. I like team work and objectives.

Hopefully, Halo 2 will be close to as good as Halo but I’m not counting on it…

I’ve been inundated with comment spam and it’s been really annoying so I’ve made a few changes to try and eliminate the hassle.

If you notice anything, with regards to comment spammers, email me or post something to let me know. And no, Jeff is not a spammer…I think.

Ok, I got hammered last week (thanks Heelz…). Anyway, here are this week’s spot-on projections

Georgia Tech at NC State – I think the pack bounces back in convincing fashion. Pack 31 – Bees 14
Virginia Tech at North Carolina – Carolina bounces back in un-convincing fashion. Tech 42 – Heels 21
Duke at Florida State – Duke is Duke. Nolez get Chris Rix back. Oh joy! FSU 45 (-4 fumbles) – Duke 7
Maryland at Virginia – Cavs should win this one easy and make last week’s win by Maryland look like a fluke. Cavs 28 – Terps 10
Clemson at Miami – No way Clemson wins this one. Hmmm, didn’t we say that about Carolina? Miami 38 – Clemson 27

So, I tried to vote this morning but the lines were too long and I had to be at work this morning. I’m planning on making time this afternoon and going back.

I’m ready for this election to be over. It’s been a horribly devisive election and I’m sick of it. I’m sick of everybody taking everything so personally as if voting for the other guy means the end of the world as we know it. The hyperbole and fear-mongering from both sides is absolutely depressing.

Guess what, no matter who wins, the country won’t go into the proverbial crapper in four years nor is this the “most important election of our times”. It’s another freakin’ election. They’re all important. Actually, it’s less important than the local elections that nobody ever votes in. The town council has more influence over your lives than our elected King.

If you’re so concerned that so-in-so will get in or stay in and it will ruin our country, get over yourselves.

Have a nice day!
