So, Robert Kraft, owner of my beloved New England Patriots, is over in Russia meeting with their president Putin. So I guess they’re just chummin’ around about last season and talking about how Tom Brady really helped Vlad’s fantasy team when Bob decided to show off his fancy, schmancy Super Bowl ring. Vlad, being gracious and all, decided to try it on and then slipped it in his pocket. Yep, that’s right, the President of Russia fingered a Super Bowl ring. If he really wanted one, I’m sure he could of sold off some cheap vodka to Lawrence Taylor. Geez, this is bizarre.
Anybody know if there is a “Pawn Shop” section in the Moscow telephone directory?

1st Amendment rights inhibited. Check.
5th Amendment rights cast aside. Check.
(Props to JT.net for being the first to think of this list/check mechanism!)
Great, we now can’t burn a piece of cloth because it’s been dyed with the colors of red, white and blue. Personally, I’m glad because we’re now safer because of it, right?(hint: that was supposed to be sarcasm). Ok, so it still has to pass the Senate but I don’t see it getting shot down.
Yeah, that’s bad but it doesn’t really stop you from political speech. The worse news is now local governments can just nab your property even if it’s to give it to private developers. So, I got this house and Raleigh can grab it and sell it to developers who are going to put up a strip mall because it will bring in more taxes than my house. Nice. Also, since they stepped all over the 5th amendment don’t expect to get “just compensation” either.
Here’s a scenario I can envision. Young couple wants a house so they fully leverage a new home for 100k with a tax value of 90k and then a month later the government grabs their house and pays them 90k. Problem is that they now owe 10k to the bank. Nice.
If you’re pissed off about these goings on you should seriously consider joining the Libertarian Party.

Not many of you know this but I’m big fan of the pre-Socratic philosopher Heraclitus. He was known for a list of sayings that are used to shed new light on a situation. His wisdom has a jarring, yin-yang like effect on your thoughts. Even though some of his sayings are somewhat common sense they have a subtlety that when you ponder on it for a while it helps to shed new light on problems you may be having.
Here’s a good example:
When there is no sun, you can see the evening stars.
In this quote/saying, the evening stars represent what isn’t obvious in a situation. Remove the bright light or whatever is commanding the most attention and you might find something wonderful that’s left over. For example, your ego might be getting in your way of seeing what’s really going on. Kick back and let go. You never know what you might find.

It looks like Team USA has a date with the World Cup in Germany next year after beating Panama 3-0.
They’ve been playing really well behind the scoring of Landon Donovan. It’s really good to see them putting away teams they should beat instead of keeping it close.
With Eddie Johnson hopefully healed up for next year, the US looks to have a pretty strong team with the chance of making their mark. Unfortunately, the England team looks incredibly strong.

“The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.”
