This week has turned out to be amazing and I was really excited to ride the scooter all week! Well, Monday morning I’m coming out of the Harris Teeter at N Hills and I hit a nail and pop my tire. Nice!
They have to special order my tire and it probably won’t be fixed till next week. Bummer…

So, most of you know that I sold my car last June and then at the beginning of July bought a scooter. There have definitely been some adjustments. I have to really plan and schedule my day around the bus and/or weather when I’m driving the scooter. I sometimes have to borrow Erin’s car so that I can run some errands that require lugging some items.
Even though some things are a little more of a pain, I’ve really enjoyed the experience. I save a ton of money (over $400 a month) and I really enjoy my time getting to work. Either with my iPod and good book while riding the bus to work or the fun, exhiliration of riding the scooter. Overall, Its been great and I wouldn’t change a thing!
However, days like yesterday make me think that having a car would be nice. The temperature was 20 degrees in the morning. That would be a pretty damn cold ride to work and waiting at the bus stop isn’t much better. A cup of coffee, some tunes and an enclosed cabin would have been a better way to commute!
But, days like that are few. Today is a lot more mild and next week is to bring some nicer weather. I’ve been taking the bus all week because of the cold so I’ll be excited to hop on the scooter next week.
If any of you are thinking of changing transportation methods, give it a try. It’s a lot easier than you think!

So, President Obama’s first executive order contained the closing of Guatanamo Bay and an order to end torture by US operatives. I’m not really excited about closing Guantanamo Bay but its not a big deal for me. The ending torture or harsh interrogation as they call it is huge. I’m all in favor of that. I don’t like the idea of the US using torture because I believe we’re the good guys (as misguided as that may be) so we should act accordingly.
However, we come to find out that the carrying out of rendition will still be allowed. This is the act where by CIA operatives scoop up a suspect, pack him/her into a plane and go to another country and then begin the interrogation. Since its not a permanent detention center, this will be allowed. So, a very unpopular form of getting info from terror suspects that the Bush administration used is now being continued by the Obama administration. I guess his intentions are better so its ok?
From the article:
“Obviously you need to preserve some tools – you still have to go after the bad guys,” an administration official told the Los Angeles Times.
“The legal advisers working on this looked at rendition. It is controversial in some circles and kicked up a big storm in Europe. But if done within certain parameters, it is an acceptable practice.”
Really? What parameters are those? So, some torture is more palatable than others? Hopefully, the detainees won’t be made to listen to Speaker Pelosi talk…now THAT would be torture!
W and his peeps were roundly criticized for this. Will the same be true for Obama?
